One-way tickets are a different experience all togther. [Jul. 16th, 2008|05:42 pm]
So I just helped move my friend out of his apartment today. This got me thinking. I only have two weeks left in my apartment. After that Ill be floating around for awhile. To be exact, Ill be floating around temporally until October.

Its July...

So whatever. My plan is this:
1. Give most of my stuff away. (Now)
2. Move out July 31.
3. Move into a friends place. (July 31)
4. Move into another friend's place(when the resident of the room moves in)
5. Move with family for a month in Houston (August 20..)
6. Move to Spain and live in temporary housing in Sevilla for a month (Sept)
7. Move to Alora Spain. (Oct)

Alora/\

August 10th will be the biggest change so far in my life. Is the real world bad? Ive never been there so I don't know. I'm just a naive American anyway. Help.....

Food Not Lawns [Mar. 28th, 2008|04:46 pm]
So ive been really proactive this past month. To start off, I acquired an abandoned bike and rebuilt it. I converted it to a single speed and added some new parts. Now I have this really awesome vintage road bike that probably only cost me $20 total. On top of that, Ive started a vegetable garden outside of my apartment. I have about 6 tomato plants, 6 jalapeƱos plants, over 20 pea plants, and a few more vegetables. Its cool because I live in a small apartment in a somewhat urban area yet i have been working on a garden and a compost pile. Theres a patch of grass right next to my place that gets full sunlight. No one was using it so I figured that vegetables are alot more sustainable than grass.

Food not Lawns! Yea!

It's Been a Good Month [Mar. 24th, 2008|09:20 pm]
This has been a really good month for me so I'm going to start posting again. Plus, I only have about 6 more weeks of the typical college life. I'm going to miss it. I have new things planned though. Hopefully I'll be moving to Spain in September. I'm going to try and live over there for awhile. Right on the coast...

Thanks for reading,
Tom

Im back...but for how long?

anyway. This semester has started slow. Im involved with alot of things. Me and a few people started a meditation group. Its been going well. Every tues 7:15-9pm. Its good shit. Over christmas in houston I started attending a soto Zen temple. Ive had alot of experience in Buddhism though the fairhope tibetan society. But zen is alittle different the Tibetan. Sitting zazen has really affected me for the better. Since new years ive meditated for the minimum for 20min everyday. Its really helped me. I would recommend it to everyone.

So I went to DC yesterday. I attended a demonstration demanding Israel to end its occupation of Palestine. After talking with many Palestinians and Jews from the West bank and the Gaza Strip, it really opened my eyes to how the IDF segregates Palestinians in refuge like camps and destroys their original homes so Jewish settlers can move there. What the fuck man... How can anyone support a Zionist state?

this is the coolest website ever. If you go to the website you can find these "drop spots" that people place around you city. It kinda hard to explain. Its kinda like a scavanger hunt but even cooler. Anyway. To you LSU kids I know there is one in Baton Rouge. We have two in t-town. You can always make drop spots too;)

[Current Location |Germany]

Ok its that time of year again. Time to reminisce about 2006! So let me start...
First off last newyears for me last year was spent with Amy and Finch at my house in houston. It was pretty fun indeed. I mostly spent it getting ready to move to spain. So new years day comes and I leave for spain seven days latter. Jan 7th was the beginning of the rest of my life. I must say after moving to a new country for awhile will change anyone. How did it change me? Well, my eyes are alittle more open than they were before.
So I spent some time in Spain which was amazing! And I went to Gibraltar for the weekend. There i met a guy from california who was moving to Fey to write a book. This was crazy weekend jsut for the fact that him and I also spent the weekend with this Moroccan guy who had a golfball size clump of hash. Well that was when I realized that if this guy from california can move to fez and write a book. Then I can do anything.
Some time went on and i went to Rome by myself. This was another life changing experience for me. The first day I spent there was bymyself. But then I met Svenja. That was amazing. We spent the weekend together and I ended up changing my plane ticket home and went to germany instead.
Going to Germany was probably one of the most eye opening experiences of my life. Why? Their country is so progressive. It is actually cool to know about politics over there. Haha can you believe that?! People actualy try to recycle and save energy. God, our country has alot to learn.... And dont get me wrong, they have their problems too. But they are just alittle smarter over there. For instance, my last post I wrote about americans voting. And someone wrote to me "feck off love,America" I showed it to all my german friends over here and they all laughed. Why? because to they typical american, that is their best argument is to accuse someone of hating america.

Ohwell. Im getting side tracked...(but im describing my year)
After going back to the states I started noticing things that were not right. Everyone was extremely wasteful. And right now someone is reading this and getting offended. And To the person that is getting offended: I laugh at you that you are so ignorant to actaully be offended by something like that.
God I keep getting side tracked.... So I worked in houston for awhile and 90 percent of my friends were from central and south america. mainly because i worked and a soccer complex. It was really cool to hear people talking about their old homes in other countries.

Ok after that Svenja came and we went to Tuscaloosa. We had a good time. Went to a reggae festival, went to new orleans, and other places. She seemed to like it. It was kind of embarrassing to take her to the more conservative area in the country. But she got a good laugh out of it.

Time goes on....and I go back to germany. (Thats where I am now)

So this year I have traveled alot....
Spain
Canada(again)
Italy
Netherlands
Germany
Switzerland
England
Many places in the States
Tunisia
and almost mexico

So to sum up 2006. I must say its been the most life changing year of my entire life. Aprende espanol, I now have a girlfriend who lives in germany, plus ive seen so many different life styles that I can honestly say that the united states I a very new place and has alot to learn. Ignorance is bliss? Definitely. I might be less comfortable in the united states now knowing what I know, but at least I feel more aware of the world around me.

This is the saddest thing ive read in awhile. Just one more reason i need to leave our dying

"more adults vote for the next American Idol than do for the next president"
